The OPA (Europe) Newsletter (ed. Ken Pearce)

Dear Old Paulite

In his email of the 23rd February David Medland informed we would shortly be introducing a 'Magazine' Section on our website into which articles could be included as soon as they were received rather than wait until we had accumulated sufficient of interest to include in a printed 'Newsletter,' as was the case in the past.
The Magazine on the OPA)E) website is now up and running thanks to untiring efforts by the web master, Arindam Chaudhuri

The first article is an exclusive! An original, absorbing, historical gem about the Chapel written by 'Pa' Goddard. This interesting reading (something of a scoop!) has been made available to us by Judy Hunt and Arshak Sarkissian.

Please visit the website and enjoy it. The site is free to access; no log in is necessary. Just type oldpaulites.org into your browser and navigate to 'The Magazine.'

All “news” items as such, which would have been carried by the printed and posted Newsletter, are now to be found within the web pages. The new Magazine pages will carry articles of interest and photographs, (as and when they are received), which might have a wide appeal and which can be accessed immediately from anywhere in the world.

There is of course much more of interest. Have a look at the updates of the plans for the 'Paulite Forever' weekend; even perhaps think about visiting Darjeeling next October! (Some of us are.)

Visit the website regularly and keep abreast of the news.... and do let us know if you like it or give us your suggestions for improvement. Also please do submit your news or accounts of adventures to share in the Magazine. Simply email them to me.

With Very Best Wishes

Ken

A change in direction...

The last printed OPA(E) Newsletter, issue No. 13, appeared in September 2011. For a variety of technical, personal and editorial reasons a further edition has not been produced since then. However the excellent and popular OPA(E) website (oldpaulites.org) came into being in October 2012 and has carried news and articles which previously might have been expected to have been found in the Newsletter. So whilst the very popular Newsletter in its printed form has gone missing, the website has more than made up for its absence.

With this in mind and also recognising the fact that most communication within the OPA(E) is now electronic, through the internet, it seemed sensible to rethink the purpose and form of The Newsletter.

In his recent emailed letter to OPA(E) members and our friends dated 23rd February 2014, our Hon Secretary, David Medland, said we would shortly be introducing a section in our website to be called, 'The Magazine,' into which articles will be placed as and when we receive them, rather than wait until we have a collection to place all in one go to print and post as a 'Newsletter.'

It does now make sense to incorporate these magazine type articles into our website. All “news” as such which would have been carried by the Newsletter is already to be found within the web pages The new Magazine pages will carry articles of interest and photographs, (as and when they are received), which might have a wide appeal and which can be accessed immediately from anywhere in the world. We hope individual Old Paulites will keep sending in news of their activities or adventures to share in the Magazine.
